Welcome to the tour of David and Susan's new place.
1. Here's a side-view of the house. It was built in 1901, and the previous tenant (Peggy Douglas, the mother of our friends Jean and Margaret) had lived here for 90 years.
2. This is the front view of the house and includes a peak at our front flower bed. It was a much smaller patch at the outset, but David went for a sandwich one day and when he returned it had mysteriously doubled. Its main design feature was insprired by David: tall things.
3. This is the view from the front porch. The sunsets are amazing.
4. You are now entering the back yard. In front, you'll find our much tended and adored vegetable garden. Our tomatoes (20 plants!) are turning red and we've already harvested zucchini, basil, parsley, and cucumbers. The large tree is a lilac, and you can't quite see the many old (70 yrs. +) rose bushes.
5. Here's the back patio which includes a variety of metal lawn furniture. We inherited some of the furniture from Peggy and bought some at local used furniture stores. Susan did most of the painting, and David handled recovering the seats.
6. A closer look.
7. Welcome to the kitchen, the place where we seem to spend most of our time.
8. Here's the hallway to the bathroom, office and bedroom. Please admire yet another piece of used furniture-- this time a used dresser -- painted by Susan and David.
9. In the front you'll see the dining room, but look to the breakfast nook and kitchen as well. The whole place was freshly painted thanks to our kind landlords, Margaret, Rex and Jean.
10. This is the breakfast nook, sans vintage chairs. We are still shopping!
11. Here is the view from the living room to the dining room.
12. The fireplace has original tile. We love to read the Sunday paper in this spot.
13. Here's the bedroom (it's actually much larger than it looks here) with the new duvet cover David gave Susan for her birthday.
14. Another room that is larger than it appears -- the bathroom. Courtesy again to Margaret, Rex and Jean, we have all new sage green tile, a glass block window, a new tub, a new toilet, a new sink, and all new fixtures and lighting.
15. Enter the office. This room finally was painted (it's a long story involving a very unpleasant and unpredictable painter, but we won't go into it here), so Susan will be unpacking this week. She's been working on a card table and searching for books box by box and can't wait to set up the desk and arrange bookshelves.
