Our Story (added March 2024):
We met at Cornell in Spring 2013 though the course CS 3110: Data Structures and Functional Programming. Ben was a teaching assistant. Sarah was a student. We did not get along. To this day we avoid talking about programming.

We crossed paths many times late at night in Upson Hall and the Robot Learning Lab.

We slowly found common ground in our similar work schedules, similar outlooks on life, and our tendency to craft elaborate plans. We had fun playing Resident Evil 4, hating on structural induction and Hoare logic, and driving home to Capital Region NY. Even before Ben moved in with Sarah in 2013 (or rather moved his luggage in, because he was spending most nights in the Upson Hall Systems Lab), they were usually together.

In Summer 2016, Sarah gave a kind of ultimatum that Ben had better come back from his conference trip to Santa Barbara (PLDI'16) with a ring. He did get a ring but it wasn't an engagement ring and it didn't fit. He had another chance with a trip to Rome the next month (ECOOP'16). He failed again. The ring fit but it wasn't proper and the hexagon of Toblerone chocolates he brought as backup didn't cut it. Thus began some difficult days. We survived thanks to the cats.

In Summer 2019 we finally got our act together, went shopping at Cambridge Place to pick a ring, and called First Lutheran Church to start the ball rolling. The church call was memorable. Ben didn't own a phone so he borrowed Sarah's. The church didn't pick up so he left a message. Sarah was shocked and upset that the church wouldn't pick up during regular business hours and accused Ben of foul play. "You're just leading me on!" Our yelling and crying was interrupted by a strange beep from the phone. Ben hadn't hung up after leaving the message. We stopped fighting and we eventually did get married in that lovely church.

We don't remember a formal proposal during all this excitement.

The ceremony was at First Lutheran Church in Albany, NY at 1:30pm.
